About Us

This is not a typical "About" page. We have chosen not to present the usual collection of corporate statistics (sales volume, number of employees, etc.). You also won't find short biographies of the corporate officers (education, degrees awarded, professional memberships and similar information). This was a deliberate, thoughtful decision.

We initially put together a traditional "About" page and included the kinds of information mentioned above -- but we weren't satisfied. On reflection, we realized that the information we'd presented was only "about" us in the most superficial sense -- and it didn't capture what we were really about at all. We weren't, for example, "about" our annual sales or the degrees earned by our engineers. Neither were we "about" a list of completed projects or current clients.

So we went back to the drawing board.

After a fair amount of time and a lot of animated discussion, we realized that we wanted only one thing from an "About" page: a clear statement of what makes us different. More than anything else, that difference defines us, sets us apart and provides one way for a prospective client to distinguish us from everyone else.

The Difference

Speedbump Software is about making technology useful.

It doesn't sound terribly profound, but there is a lot wrapped up in that apparently simple statement. For example:

  • It suggests that usefulness is in the eye of the beholder. Usefulness is a quality bestowed upon technology (software, hardware) by the user -- not something inherent in technology itself.

  • It implies that technology should change in order to adapt to the user -- not the other way around.

  • The statement applies equally to any technology -- ancient, modern, cutting-edge and everything in-between.

By making technology useful, we help our clients make a difference: to do something better, faster or more efficiently. In some cases, we can give clients additional capabilities -- in effect, extending the usefulness of their current technology.

This is what we're "about". We're about getting the job done. We're about solving business problems and we're about pushing any technology to its limits in pursuit of usefulness. We're about making a difference by helping our clients to make a difference.

The rest is just so many statistics.
